PFC Moultrie's Story!

Moutlrie had been blind since he was a young pup, due to congenitally small eyeballs that led to to excessive pigmentation over the whites of his eyes. He could see shadows we thought, but he also had some major "ticks" including loudly barking and snapping at his back feet. He also had a habit of running full steam into his foster when he excitedly responded when she called to him...Moultrie couldn't tell where to stop so he just relied on his foster's legs as his cue to stop! Moutlrie had originally been adopted out; but, as his ticks increased, we felt he needed to come back into care as a Permanent Foster Care (PFC) dog so that we could explore possible seizure activity and even some signs of doggie dementia. Today, Moultrie's curious habits seem to be controlled with a light dose of phenobarbital. Curiously, an inflatable donut collar seems to also help calm his barking and snapping episodes if they start up. Moultrie will remain in care with Boykin Spaniel Rescue (BSR) for the rest of his days so that we can respond to his needs as they come up.
