PFC Brice's Story!

Brice had been a "daddy's girl" Boykin all her life. And, despite lifelong vision impairment, she had her person and he took care of her and accommodated her in the wider world. Suddenly, her male owner passed away and Brice was not adjusting at all to the changes around her. Once Brice came into care, we discovered that not only was her vision impaired, but she seemed to have overall sensory deficits and definite socialization issues. During her first few months with the foster, Brice kept to a small, out of the way room where she did not have to interact with anyone or any other members of the pack. She would go outside to relieve herself when her foster took her, but she had no desire to explore or sniff the great out doors. Her sense of smell also seemed off, and the foster noticed that she had difficulty eating out of a bowl, preferring to scatter her food and eat off the floor. Her eating seemed to be more a matter of habit than any true food motivation.

With time, Brice has ventured out to join her new family and is allowing herself to engage with them a bit. Her foster is working with her to build confidence and implement routines and practices that are more normal. Brice will be a life-long project; but she is in a safe, loving and nurturing environment that will support her along her journey.
